Sanjay Leela Bhansali shot Gajanana with live vocals
Mayur is appreciative of the kind of work SLB invests in each frame.
One has been aware of Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s tough ways on the sets with regard to his actors, but seems like the singers have quite the drill too. Mayur Sakhare, who has lent his voice to two songs in Bajirao Mastani — Fitoori and Gajanana (Marathi version) — tells us that during the shooting of Gajanana, SLB asked Mayur to come to the sets at 12 am to provide live vocals to the scene.
“I sang live as the scene was being filmed and the shoot went on till beyond 2 am. SLB is a true perfectionist. At the start of Gajanana, Priyanka Chopra makes an entry into the screen. It is a barely 15 second shot, but PC had to give 10 retakes.”
A still from Gajanana
Mayur is appreciative of the kind of work SLB invests in each frame. “I come from a Maharashtrian background, so I’m familiar with the Gajanana song and it wasn’t tough for me. Later, however, the final version of the song was recorded in a studio. The atmosphere on the sets was very strict and no one was allowed to click any photos. Interaction was minimum with full focus on work.”
