Osmania University Appoints Professors of Practice to Fill Faculty Deficit

Hyderabad: Osmania University, under its professor of practice system introduced this year, has selected six persons with extensive understanding and knowledge who have rendered exceptional contributions in their respective disciplines, as faculty members, who will now teach OU students in the classroom.

The administration department on Wednesday issued instructions appointing the six persons who have worked at prominent research institutes under professor of practice in order to fill the faculty deficit and provide students with practical knowledge.

They include Dr Basharat Ali for civil engineering department, Dr Gankidi Madhusudan Reddy for mechanical engineering, Dr Uday B. Krishnamurthy for biomedical engineering, Dr M.S. Venkata Ramaiah for mining engineering, Krishnaiah Dayyala and Dr D. Venugopal for computer science engineering departments.

Prof. Dandeboina Ravinder Yadav, vice chancellor of the university stated that the professor of practice policy is being implemented as part of the National Education Policy-2020 with the goal of giving students a broad and realistic understanding of the subject, as opposed to knowledge that is only found in books.

He claimed that individuals who have worked for more than 30 years in prominent research institutions, who have pioneered numerous discoveries and achieved acclaim on a national and international scale, are being appointed as professors of practice in the initial phase, allowing students an opportunity to conduct experiments with seasoned experts from various fields.
