HYDERABAD: Female students residing in Osmania University (OU) hostels staged a protest on Thursday afternoon, decrying the alleged lack of proper security measures. The agitation stemmed from an unsettling incident that occurred Wednesday midnight, when two unidentified men reportedly breached the walls of the women's PhD scholar hostel premises. Disturbingly, one student claimed that these intruders even went to the extent of knocking on hostel room doors.

The protesting students, demanding enhanced security measures, also voiced their grievances about the dismal quality of hygiene in the hostels.

Taking their protest to the streets, the girls also had their lunch on the road to express dissatisfaction with the existing conditions.

While the OU police said that no formal complaint had been lodged, they said that an investigation was initiated promptly. A four-member specialised team has been assigned to patrol the vicinity, particularly focusing on the University College of Technology premises.

The protesting students raised concerns about the environment around the hostels. According to one student, despite repeated requests to the management for maintenance of trees, no action has been taken, rendering the surroundings almost jungle-like.
