Skill development alongside education helps youths get jobs faster

VIJAYAWADA: Skill development courses along with education would help youths get jobs faster, as AP is experiencing a dearth of educated youths with skills in various fields.

Principal secretary to the state Skills Development Corporation S. Suresh Kumar stated this while addressing the Udyoga Vijayotsava (job achievers) programme at the government polytechnic. At the event, appointment orders were issued to 277 students selected by various companies.

Suresh Kumar said it was commendable that as many students from various departments at the Government Polytechnic College this year have got jobs. “There is a chance to get a job faster by developing vocational and other skills along with education. There are government regulations to provide job opportunities to 75 per cent of the locals in every industry across the state but a problem is that candidates with proper skills are not available for recruitment,” he said.

Suresh Kumar said those who have completed ITI and polytechnic have more job opportunities, but most of those who have studied polytechnics are keen on doing engineering degree course. As of now, many companies are providing jobs to polytechnic-pass students and providing them the skill training required for such companies, he said.

He said companies are giving opportunities to staff to study B.Tech online and then they are given placement. Youths must take advantage of such opportunities, he said.

Director of technical education C. Nagarani said it was gratifying to note that placements are given for students during the final year of their course. She said various companies have given placement to 4,000 students across the state.

She stressed that more girls should be encouraged to have polytechnic education. More people should be encouraged to study not only electronics and electrical engineering but also mechanical and civil engineering, where there are more opportunities.

Suresh Kumar and Nagarani offered placement orders to candidates who got jobs in various companies in the automobile, electronics and communication, electrical and electronics, mechanical and metrology branches.

Polytechnic college principal M. Vijayabhaskar, ITI College principal P.V. Rameshkumar, SBTET secretary K.V. Ramana Babu, training and placement officer V. Ramakrishna, deputy director Vijaya Bhaskar and students of the college were present.
