HYDERABAD: Tension prevailed in the Sri Chaitanya Junior College campus at Peerzadiguda under Medipally police station limits, after a 17-year-old intermediate student, Nimmala Ramadevi, died by suicide in the college hostel on Monday.

After news broke about the incident, scores of student union members staged a protest and accused the college management of causing harassment. The girl’s parents, from Nagarkurnool district, suspected foul-play behind her death.

She was declared dead at the hospital where she was rushed. College authorities claimed that they had informed her parents immediately after the incident and there was no delay even in shifting her to the hospital.

Huge police force was deployed to control the situation. However, a few student union members jumped over the gate and sat on a protest inside the campus. They were dragged out and shifted to a van. The girl’s parents demanded a thorough investigation into Ramadevi’s death and strict action against those found guilty.
