Vijayawada: Education Minister Botsa Satyanarayana has said the state government would felicitate the toppers of government schools in the Tenth and Intermediate examinations with cash prizes and merit certificates. The government would also felicitate the parents of the toppers.

The presentation of the awards would be done on May 23 at the constituency level, May 27 at the district level and May 31 at the state level.

The minister said the Top-3 toppers at the district level will be honoured with cash prizes of ₹50,000, ₹30,000 and ₹10,000 along with medals and certificates. Those winning the first three positions at the state level will be honoured with a medal and certificate along with cash prizes of ₹1 lakh, ₹75,000 and ₹50000.

A total of 2831 students of Class 10 and Intermediate levels will be felicitated in this three-tier programme.

“With the revolutionary reforms and changes undertaken by the state government in the education sector, the educational standards in government schools and colleges have risen majorly. Cash prizes to the students are aimed at making them better students and enable them to compete with the wider world. The merit awards are meant to encourage talent,” the minister said.

The minister said, “We are taking steps to encourage every parent to send their children to government schools and colleges instead of private institutions.”

School education principal secretary Praveen Prakash, commissioner Suresh Kumar, Intermediate Board secretary Seshagiri Babu, examinations director Devananda Reddy, KGBV secretary Madhusudan Rao, AP residential schools secretary Narasimha Rao and Samagra Siksha administration officer Srinivasa Rao and others were present.
