VIJAYAWADA: School education department has extended morning schools for another week in view of the hot weather conditions.

School education commissioner S. Suresh Kumar, in a press release in Vijayawada on Sunday, said the schools will function from 7:30 a.m. to 11:30 p.m. till June 24. Ragi malt will be served between 8:30 a.m. and 9 a.m. and mid-day meals from 11:30 a.m. to 12 noon.

Parents have welcomed the extension of morning schools.

Gompa Prabhakar, whose twin children attend a corporate school, said this is a great relief. He felt it would have been better if holidays had been extended till the end of the month, as many other states in the country have done.

Housewife Sujatha Garuguballi said extension of holidays would have prevented children from moving out of the house during the heatwave.

Paediatrician G Ramulu observed that children need not miss their school. They have good resistance and can cope up with the harsh weather, he observed. He, however, welcomed morning schools as a good decision of the government.
