HYDERABAD: NSUI state president Balmuri Venkat on Friday threatened that he would hold a protest in front of education minister P. Sabitha Indra Reddy's residence as well as across the state if the state government did not take severe action against private universities that were operating without the appropriate permissions.

The NSUI state president questioned how private universities such as Guru Nanak and Srinidhi, which purportedly do not have permission to admit students, were allowed to do so. With political influence, the management has set up private universities and cheated students by collecting exorbitant fees from parents, he alleged.

"The Governor's approval is necessary for the setting up of private universities under proper guidelines, " Venkat said. However, the state government has granted permission to private universities that have breached the regulations by admitting students.

"The education department must take action against the illegally operating private universities in the state," said the NSUI state president. The management had also persuaded their students to hold a dharna at the Governor's residence to protest against the delay in issuing approvals.
