HYDERABAD: Thousands of candidates, including pregnant women and housewives, who applied for the exams of the Telangana Residential Educational Institutions Recruitment Board (TREI-RB) posts to be held on August 1, had a tough time reaching exam centres after board officials generated hall tickets. Many were given centres away from their native districts.

After TREI-RB released a notification to fill up vacant posts like art teacher, PGT, junior lecturer, degree lecturer, among others, more than 2.66 lakh candidates applied. The exams are to be held from August 1-23.

M. Rama Devi, a housewife from the erstwhile Nizamabad district, applied for four posts. "I sought an exam centre in my native district. Imagine my shock that centres for three of the papers I have applied for are in Medchal, Karimnagar, and Ranga Reddy districts. How can I travel to three different districts,” she asked.

The official portal of the board was down on Sunday and the candidates were unable to download hall tickets.

TPCC official spokesperson Mahesh Konagala said in a release on Sunday that nine years after coming to power, the BRS government has released a notification to fill up vacancies of around 5000 posts. A number of districts like Khammam, Bhadradri Kothagudem, Warangal, Hanmakonda and Mulugu are badly affected by rains, which have also destroyed roads.

"I request the government to allocate exam centers in one’s respective districts," he said.
