Shah Rukh Khan helped Aamir break the ice with Amitabh Bachchan, here's how
Aamir wanted to light up a cigarette once on sets but he was confused because Amitabh Bachchan would judge him.
After a long wait and two attempts, Vijay Krishna Acharya and YRF’s Thugs Of Hindostan managed to bring megastars Amitabh Bachchan and Aamir Khan on screen, sharing the same frame.
Amitabh Bachchan is known to carry an aura which gets people intimidated. When asked about the same to Aamir, he said, "I was excited and nervous at the same time working with Amit ji. On our first shot, I was a little nervous but then he is one of the very warm and generous persons with a dry sense of humour. It’s that state where you don’t know if you should laugh or not."
Aamir wanted to light up a cigarette once on sets but he was confused because it was the megastar who would judge him. Hence Aamir did something about it. He called up Shah Rukh Khan, who has worked with Big B in Mohabbatein, Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham, Veer-Zaara, Paheli, Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna and Bhootnath.
Recollecting that time, he said, "In fact I wanted to have a cigarette, but Bachchan sahib was in front of me so I didn’t know what to do. At that time I call up Shah Rukh and he told me that I maintain distance when smoking and eventually reduce the distance. One day Bachchan sahib comes and laughs that I had called up Shah Rukh to ask if I can smoke in front of him. He said yes you can smoke but it isn’t good for you. When I asked him if he has smoked, his answer was in an affirmative. So I understood."
Ask Aamir if he would take up a film only because Amitabh Bachchan is part of it and he says, "No. I have to be attached to the material first. But of course, rest was great, my character, dialogues, everything was very detailed and well- written."
"It ('Thugs of Hindostan') is a very universal and child-friendly film. Though there are action scenes, there is no blood shown and those action scenes are fun," he added.
In fact the actor feels it’s his toughest role so far. "I have played the toughest role of my career in TOH. Though there are many challenging roles I have played in my career, narrating the character of Firangi Mallah was the toughest where I had to walk a very thin line," he said.
Aamir, speaking about how his character Firangi is intriguing, shared, "He is a very unreliable person who is talking to everyone in such a manner that people believe him. He knows how to win the trust and then at some point he will stab you in the back."
