Maestro Ilayaraja, who was the chief guest at the ‘Nambiar Centenary Tribute event’ in the city, reminisced on his spiritual connect with legendary onscreen villain Nambiar, who was also a spiritual leader and revered as Maha Gurusamy.

Speaking on the occasion, Isai Gnani said, “I went to Sabarimala along with Nambiar in 1980. Thereafter, I had visited the shrine thrice with him. It was an unforgettable spiritual journey. I have a guesthouse at Theni, on the way to Sabarimala. Nambiar Samy would always stay there during his pilgrimage. I feel so proud of it. Now, the guesthouse has turned a Veda Patasala (centre for Vedic learning). Nambiar was only a villain on screen, but in real life he never acted and was the best Gurusamy I have ever met.”

Former DGP Vijayakumar, Pon Radhakrishnan, La Ganesan, Sivakumar, Kamala Selvaraj, Venniradai Nirmala, Sachchu and MN Rajam were among those who graced the occasion.
