A state of mind
Time Bomb, a play by Arun Nayar, will be staged on Tuesday at the capital city.
The time bomb is fast ticking. Wonder where? It is nowhere else, but within you. Locked inside your head, laced in nerves and blood vessels. Every mind is as dangerous as a live explosive, perhaps causing more damage than a real weapon of mass destruction.Kanal Samskarika Vedi’s new play, a dedication to the World Theatre Day, is Time Bomb, the directorial debut of theatre-person-cum-cine-actor Arun Nayar.
The psychological thriller is a two-member play having a psychologist and his patient, which takes a pretty long consultation than usual. “The patient sees himself as a failure in life. He wants know why he is so. Otherwise, the man is not identified to be anything. If the doctor has to find a way out of his problems, the man should open up, for which he shows a stiff resistance. Finally, when he does, it happens at the end of meeting for 12 days. The play unravels through a conversation,” says Arun.
Arun, who has acted in the movies Ozhivudivasathe Kali, Osyathu, Ayaal Sasi and Minnaminungu has 11 years of experience in theatre. An independent script, Arun says, is a dissection of everyday society.
“In this play, we try to build through various layers. The human mind has unthinkable powers, a small potential of which is utilised. As it ticks like a time bomb, a small deviation could lead human beings to incline towards what society calls negative or unusual behaviour. Here, the characters are portrayed in both black and white shades in a realistic way,” says he.
For the much anticipated revelation, the wait extends till the climax of the play.
On stage, Santhosh G. Nair appears as the doctor and Jayadev Ravi as the patient. Music execution is by S Durga fame Kannan Nayar. Another highlight of the play is light design.
“Time Bomb tries a different lighting pattern not usually used for a psychologically themed play,” says the director. Theatre person Hazim Amaravila is handling this part. Reju Koliyakkode and Chinchu K. Bhavani offer creative support.
This is Kanal’s special play for World Theatre Day, after it has been decided that every member of the theatre group would do a play in a year, in addition to the troupe’s annual special play.
Time Bomb comes on stage on March 27 at Lenin Balavadi in Vazhuthacaud. Book your seats before 6.30 pm.
