Nagarjuna, Venkatesh turn action heroes to woo masses
Image makeover is part of an actor's job, says famed writer Gopi Mohan
Seasoned stars Nagarjuna and Venkatesh are doing action films to bounce back into the reckoning. Nagarjuna wants to revive his winning streak with 'Naa Saami Ranga’, while Venkatesh turns a vigilante in his upcoming film 'Saindhav' to showcase a new side.
Both went in for an image makeover and showcased their fiery side, breaking away from their soft love boy and family hero image. "Image makeover is part of an actor's job," says famed writer Gopi Mohan and adds, "Nagarjuna and Venkatesh are looking different and serious this time and going to score in a new avatar, provided their films have good script," he adds.
He cites the examples of veteran Tamil stars Kamal Haasan and Rajinikanth, who made a big comeback with action adventures like 'Vikram' and 'Jailer' respectively.
"Despite doing wonderful films, Kamal could register the biggest hit of his career with 'Vikram'. Similarly, Rajinikanth bounced into reckoning after a few flops with 'Jailer' and established new records in box office collections. Surely, action pays," he informs.
Probably, taking a cue from Tamil superstars Nagarjuna and Venkatesh treading the action path, "This is the season of action adventures since young generations are lapping up action-centric flicks.
Maybe even Nagarjuna and Venkatesh wanted to move out of their comfort zone and flex their muscles to attract youth and mass audiences. Since their regular audience and family audience- are turning up in theatres one or two weeks later, senior heroes are banking on action to woo masses in big numbers."
Actually, Nagarjuna had tasted success with action films like 'Mass' and 'Don' in the past, and he is revisiting the image with 'Naa Saami Ranga’.
"Nagarjuna had tasted success in action and family dramas but his last two films like 'The Ghost' didn't do well. Venkatesh has rocked in comedy and family dramas like 'F2' and showcased varied shades in 'Rana Naidu'. Now, both have taken up a new challenge and reinventing themselves to reach out to new-age viewers with anger-driven films since viewers change every decade besides their tastes," he adds.
He also says that famed lover boy Nani also went in for a makeover with 'Dasara' and tasted success. "Nani transformation to a rugged and lungi-clad youth in 'Dasara' gave him a new image and also altered his lover boy image," points out Gopi Mohan, who claims novelty in the script and narration plays a crucial role in striking a chord with Telugu audience. "A perfect blend of action and emotion could do wonders,' he concludes.
