Hyderabad: The Telangana state government will give away its first film awards since the formation of the state during the Dasara festival and has begun a search for the new name for the award.

Animal husbandry and cinematography minister T. Srinivas Yadav, who chaired a meeting on the Telugu film and TV-related issues with film personalities, said that the government is planning to present film awards on the Dasara day instead of April.

The government of united AP used to give film awards under the name Nandi in April to roughly coincide with the Ugadi festival — the Telugu new year.

The government app-ears to have already shortlisted some of the names for the film award. Among them are Nemili (peacock), Palapitta (Indian roller or blue jay, now a state bird), Simham (lion) and Kakatiya Thora-nam (the iconic gateway of Warangal during the Kakatiya rule).

A decision has also taken to organise Indywood Film Carnival in Hyderabad from December 1 to 4 this year. “The representatives from 100 countries will participate in the film carnival and the government would ensure top film personalities are in the carnival committee,” he said.
