Rajinikanth's popularity is unmatched in Tamil Nadu, but in Telugu states it will be difficult to draw openings because he has just one day(August 10) to garner big numbers. Since the next day, Chiranjeevi's Bholaa Shankar will arrive in theatres in two Telugu states, says an exhibitor. DC Image

Rajinikanth's latest blockbuster, "Jailer," has been rewriting box office records, establishing itself as the second-highest-grossing Tamil film of all time and marking a significant success for the superstar after a considerable hiatus. However, it's interesting to note that before Rajinikanth stepped into the titular role, director Nelson Dilipkumar had another actor in mind.

According to reports, Nelson Dilipkumar initially contemplated casting Chiranjeevi, the iconic Telugu actor known as the "Megastar," for the lead role in "Jailer." However, Chiranjeevi expressed reservations about the project, citing the absence of songs and dance sequences in the film. Chiranjeevi's films are known for their signature song-and-dance routines, and this deviation from the norm seemed to have given him pause. While he didn't outright reject the offer, Chiranjeevi left it open-ended, telling the director, Nelson, "Let's see later." It's important to note that there has been no official confirmation of this report, but it has garnered significant attention on social media.

Currently, "Jailer" is experiencing an astounding run at the box office, amassing a worldwide gross of Rs 650 crore. It has even surpassed Shah Rukh Khan's "Dilwale" in terms of the highest box-office collection in Malaysia, a feat celebrated by the film production and distribution company Ayngaran International.

"Jailer" revolves around Muthuvel Pandian (Rajinikanth), a retired jailer leading a contented life with his family. When his son, Arjun Pandian (Vasanth Ravi), an Assistant Commissioner of Police, goes missing while investigating the case of missing temple idols, Muthuvel Pandian embarks on a mission to unravel the mystery and confront Varman (Vinayakan), the mastermind behind the temple idol theft.

The film also features Ramya Krishnan, Yogi Babu, Jaffer Sadiq, and cameos by Jackie Shroff, Mohanlal, and Shivarajkumar, all produced by Sun Pictures.

Excitingly, reports have emerged that director Nelson is considering a sequel to "Jailer" and aims to cast none other than Vijay in the film. While this development is yet to be confirmed, it has already sparked considerable anticipation among fans.
