Hyderabad: The school education department has chalked out a 40-day subject-wise schedule of special classes, 12 days weekend tests and pre-final exams from February 22 and March 4 for SSC students to improve their pass percentage. The schedule will start from January 3. This is the first time two pre-final exams have been scheduled.

During the pre-finals, students will write the examination in the first session and attend classes in the second. Time has been allotted for questions, paper discussion and feedback.

Revision classes for Class 10 before and after school hours had started two months ago. However, a teacher said some parents were not serious about the revision classes. “Teachers are calling parents every other day if their child does not turn up for the revision classes. While a few just yes, others do not even bother answering the phone,” said Manjula Reddy, government school teacher.

Afreen Fatima, government school teacher, said they were not clear how much of the syllabus the pre-finals would cover. “We were told to finish the syllabus by December 31, but it has not been done. We are focusing on the weaker students during the revision classes. Questions in which students can score marks easily are given importance," she said.

Teachers were avoiding giving writing assignments to students and making them do some physical activity and providing snacks to keep them fresh, Fatima said.
