Raichur court sentences two individuals in sexual assault case, awarding compensation to the victim and fines to the accused

Raichur: The Third Additional District and Sessions POCSO Court in Sindhanur has sentenced two individuals in a case involving the sexual assault of a minor girl, reported in April 2018 under the Sindhanur Town Police Station limits.

The court sentenced Ramesh, son of Mariyappa (Accused No. 1), to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs 15,000. Ramesh, son of Mudiyappa (Accused No. 2), received two years of simple imprisonment along with a fine of Rs 5,000. Both accused are residents of Umalooti village in Sindhanur taluk.

The case was registered following a complaint by the victim’s father. During the investigation, then-circle inspector Nagraj M Kammar filed a chargesheet against the accused. After reviewing the evidence and witness testimonies, the court found the accused guilty.

In addition to the sentences, the court ordered Rs 4.5 lakh in compensation for the victim from the government’s victim relief fund.

Special Public Prosecutor M Manjunath represented the government in the case.
