Vijayapura: Three bodies have been recovered and search operations are ongoing for two others missing after a coracle capsized during an attempted escape from a police raid in Hale Baluti village of Vijayapura district on Tuesday.

The incident occurred on Tuesday when a police team, acting on a tip-off, raided a group allegedly gambling on the banks of the River Krishna. In a bid to escape the raid, the group attempted to flee. Some people jumped into a coracle, which then sank. All were feared drowned. The police, along with the fire department had initiated a search operation.
Vijayapura district Superintendent of Police Rishikesh Sonawane told Deccan Chronicle that the bodies of Pundalik Mallappa Yankunchi (36), Dasharatha Gaudar (58), and Taiyab Chaudhari (45) have been found. The search continues for the remaining two individuals, Maiyub Valikar (35) and Rafiq (40).
