Neglected Bathukamma Kunta Awaits Transformation

Warangal: Bathukamma Kunta, the only recreation park in the district, is languishing due to a lack of attention from the authorities.

Residents of Jangaon town and those visiting the district headquarters have no place to relax, as there is no other park for recreation in the town besides Bathukamma Kunta.

It is alleged that Bathukamma Kunta has been neglected by the civic authorities. Without proper sanitation measures, streetlights do not function properly, and drain water pollutes the pond. Additionally, there is no management of public toilets.

The government sanctioned ₹2 crore in two phases, in 2014 and 2018. As a result, a spacious ground surrounding the pond, a walking track, a helipad, and an open gym were developed.

At the same time, officials constructed a Durga Matha temple in the Bathukamma Kunta area and conducted Bathukamma and Dussehra festivals on the grounds each year.

Boating facilities, additional play equipment for children, and enhanced gardening are yet to be completed. Further, the gym equipment was installed improperly, there is no CCTV surveillance, and many projects remain unfinished. Residents have urged the state government to take over the pending works and complete them as soon as possible to transform Bathukamma Kunta into a beautiful recreation park.

Members of the Walkers' Association stated that the ground at Bathukamma Kunta could be utilised in various ways, including as a playground for children. However, due to a lack of maintenance and incomplete development, it remains unused. The Walkers' Association is ready to take responsibility for installing CCTV cameras after the pending work is completed, they assured.

The local councillor of the 2nd division, Vankoduth Anitha, told

Deccan Chronicle that ₹90 lakh have been sanctioned by the government through the irrigation department. With the funds released, officials must construct a compound wall surrounding Bathukamma Kunta and complete the many pending works. She added that the issue has been brought to the attention of the district collector and the local MLA, along with officials from the municipal department.

Meanwhile, additional collector Pinkesh Kumar, along with municipal chairperson Pokal Jamuna, inspected Bathukamma Kunta and ordered officials to submit a report preparing proposals for the development and completion of the pending works at Bathukamma Kunta.
