Hyderabad: Founders of Koo, Aprameya Radhakrishna and Mayank Bidawatka announced that the Indian social microblogging app Koo will be shutting down its operations.

Koo, once seen as a rival of Elon Musk's X, will be shutting down after partnership talks fell through. "Our partnership talks fell through and we will be discontinuing our service to the public. We explored partnerships with multiple larger internet companies, conglomerates and media houses but these talks didn't yield the outcome we wanted," Aprameya said in a joint post with Co-founder Mayank Bidawatka.
"While we would've liked to keep the app running, the cost of technology services to keep a social media app running is high and we've had to take this tough decision," he added.
The founders said that Koo was about to beat Twitter in India in 2022 but the scare funding pulled it back. "Koo used to have a 10% like ratio, almost 7- 10x the ratio Twitter had - making Koo a more favorable platform for creators. At our peak we were at about 2.1 million daily active users and ~ 10 million monthly active users, 9000+ VIPs, that included some of the most eminent personalities from various fields. We were just months away from beating Twitter in India in 2022 and could have doubled down on that short term goal with capital behind us," he said in the post.
The founders also said that they will be sharing some of the assets with someone "with a great vision for India's foray into social media."
"As for us, we are entrepreneurs at heart and you will see us back in the arena one way or another," the founders said hinting a comeback.
