2.66L Cusecs of Water Released From Prakasam Barrage
Vijayawada: Floodwater release from the Prakasam Barrage continued for the fifth consecutive day on Sunday with 2,66,201 cusecs of surplus water getting released into the downstream areas.
According to the water resource authorities, 2,51,750 cusecs (1 cubic foot per second) of surplus water was released downstream by lifting 60 gates by six feet and another 10 gates by five feet from the barrage into the sea at 4:00 pm on Sunday. Another 14,451 cusecs of water was released to canals.
Krishna river conservator Krishna Rao said the inflows into the barrage have decreased in the last 24 hours as the surplus water released from the barrage came down to 266,201 cusecs from 3,17,101 cusecs on Saturday.
He said around 85 TMCft (thousand million cubic feet) of surplus water has been let into the sea by lifting the barrage gates in the last five days.
Subsequently, the Pulichintala Project has been receiving 1,01,555 cusecs of inflows from the catchment and upstream projects, while the instant outflows stood at 64,889 cusecs, including 16,000 cusecs for power generation, as per the project status at 6:00 pm on Sunday.
The authorities lifted three project gates by two metres to release surplus water downstream. Currently, the Pulichintala Project has 34.108 TMC of gross water storage against the 45.77 TMC of full gross water storage capacity.
