33,000 hectares of paddy crop affected by rains, state assures help to farmers

VIJAYAWADA: Agriculture Minister Kinjarapu Atchannaidu has assured farmers who suffered crop losses due to heavy rains that governmental help would be arranged soon. The minister conducted a review meeting with officials at the state Secretariat on Sunday, at which important issues were discussed and instructions issued.

Atchannaidu later told the media that seed has been distributed at 80% subsidized rates to those whose crops were damaged due to rains. Orders have been issued for immediate distribution of seeds. Paddy crop was damaged massively due to heavy rainfall, he said. About 1406 hectares of saplings and 33,000 hectares of standing paddy crop have been badly affected by the rains.

He said about 6356 quintals of paddy seeds have been arranged for distribution at each Rythu Seva Kendra in East Godavari, West Godavari, Eluru, Kakinada and Anakapalli districts by the state Seed Development Corporation. Those whose paddy crops have been damaged due to heavy rains can take seeds with an 80 per cent subsidy through Rythu Seva Kendras.

The minister suggested that by following good farming practices, farmers can get high yields.
