Visakhapatnam: Cybercrime police have arrested a central government employee Narava Apparao for targeted harassment of a minor girl and her family members on various social media platforms.

Apparao, aged 31, living in Odisha, is an employee of NTPC, a central government organisation. He used information available on Facebook to target a 17-year-old girl pursuing her first year of B. Tech in Visakhapatnam.

The NTPC employee used social media, including Facebook, Twitter and WhatsApp to disseminate the girl's details using vulgar language.

Compounding the issue, Apparao's family members – Narava Adilakshmi, Narava Demudu, Narava Nani and Narava Venkatesh, too harassed the girl. Further, Apparao's mother Adilakshmi purportedly gossiped about the girl within her social circles.

The harassment became such that the girl and her family members even attempted suicide.

Finally, the victim girl filed a complaint with the police. Cybercrime sleuths gathered evidence, following which police arrested Narava Apparao and remanded him to judicial custody.

Circle inspector G. Srinivasa Rao said Apparao has been booked under IPC sections as well as POCSO Act. Cybercrime inspector Bhavani Prasad said Apparao and his family members have been involved in similar cases under Arilova, Disha and Laveru police stations.
