Andhra Pradesh: Pampa’s 4th Gate Weakened
Kakinada: The Thandava, Pampa and Yeleru reservoirs are overflowing due to heavy rains and the 4thgate of Pampa, which has 5 gates, has been weakened. The Pampa reservoir capacity is 103 TMCs. The officials said that as per the advice of irrigation workshop officials, only 98 TMCs of water are being stored to protect the fourth gate.
Thandava reservoir has a capacity of 4 TMCs and the reservoir received a total capacity of inflows and the waters touched the bridge's top pillars. Yeleru reservoir received 19 TMCs of inflows out of its 24 TMCs capacity. Executive engineer of Peddapuram irrigation circle Seshagiri Rao said that they did not discharge any water from the Yeleru Reservoir and they were waiting for the water level to reach 21 TMCs. Unless there are further inflows, the present water is sufficient for the reservoir. If there are further rains in the coming days, then the surplus waters will be discharged for the interest of the farmers, he informed.
In Eluru District, the Tammileru reservoir received heavy inflows and the officials discharged 9,000 cusecs of surplus water to the downstream. Due to the overflowing of the Ramileru drainage, the waters entered many villages and Tallamudi village suffered inundation. The people of these areas are afraid of further flood waters from the Budameru canal.
Meanwhile, West Godavari district joint collector T. Rahul Kumar Reddy instructed the officials to take all steps in rain-affected areas. He visited the Nandamuri aqueduct, Yerrakalva and Yanamadurru drains and Bhimavaram town. He said the rain waters were receding, but the officials should be more alert.
