Vijayawada: Questions are being raised over the death of a 17-year-old girl studying at M.K. Baig Madrasa High School under Ajith Singh Nagar police station limits on Friday.

Police identified the girl as Karishma (17) of Angaluru in Gudivada.

Students of the madrasa have complained that Karishma died of food poisoning at the madrasa.

However, police, local administration and madrasa school management have ruled out the food poisoning.

Ajith Singh Nagar circle inspector G. Guru Prakash said the cause of Karishma’s death is yet to be ascertained. “Karishma had been feeling unwell. She thus only ate curd rice on Thursday night. On Friday morning, Karishma fell ill. Madrasa authorities took her to hospital. where she died.”

The inspector said to allay fears of food poisoning, their department took all the other 10 inmates of the Madrasa to hospital and conducted medical tests. They found that the health condition of all students is stable.

However, a case has been registered under Section 174 CrPC and a probe is underway, Guru Prakash added.
