Visakhapatnam: Jan Jjaateeya Gourav Divas, to mark the 150th birth anniversary of freedom fighter Birsa Munda, was observed on a grand scale in Parvathipuram on Friday. The programme was organised in the premises of the ITDA.

State ST Commission chairman Dr D.V.G. Sankara Rao appealed to the tribals to step towards education. He said Bhagavan Birsa Munda fought for the freedom of the country and also inspired many. He dedicated his life for the betterment of the tribal society. The chairman also pointed out the deaths in educational institutions.
District collector A Shyam Prasad said that education and health should be a priority especially in the tribal areas. He said unemployed youth were being trained through skill development and being provided jobs.
“Under the JANAM programme, many proposals were submitted to the government for the development of PVTG villages. About Rs 15.25 crore was being spent to strengthen Village Dhan Vikas Kendras,” he said.
SP S.V. Madhava Reddy, Parvathipuram municipality chairman B. Goureeswari, sub collector and ITDA project officer Ashutosh Srivastava and ASP Surana Ankita took part in the event.
