VIJAYAWADA: Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, along with union power minister Manohar Lal Khattar, will launch the Urjaveer programme on Saturday at Poranki on outskirts of Vijayawada to promote energy-efficient appliances, which contribute to both energy and environmental conservation.
Special chief secretary (Energy) and CMD APTRANSCO K. Vijayanand visited the venue on Friday to review the arrangements being made.
Vijayanand, along APGENCO managing director, K.V.N. Chakradhar Babu, pointed out that the Urjaveer is a unique initiative aimed at both environmental sustainability and socioeconomic upliftment. The programme underscores the importance of energy conservation in addressing the challenges posed by climate change, energy demand and sustainability.
The special CS explained that as part of the Urjaveer initiative, local electricians will be trained and transformed as Urjaveers across various districts of the state. The government has decided to utilise 1.12 lakh private registered electricians for promoting energy-efficient appliances within the general public. These include 6W LED bulbs, 20W LED tube lights, 30W BLDC ceiling fans, 5-star rated air conditioners, induction cooking stoves, and 10W LED inverter bulbs.
Vijayanand stated, “The trained Urjaveers will not only promote energy-efficient appliances but also educate public on their benefits. This will help increase awareness and encourage adoption of energy-saving technologies.”
Incidentally, Urjaveers can earn success fees for every appliance sold through eeslmart.in portal.
Urjaveer programme is a pivotal step towards promoting energy efficiency at the grassroots level, creating a network of individuals dedicated to making energy conservation a way of life. Through this initiative, Andhra Pradesh will not only contribute to India’s energy-saving goals, but also empower its citizens to actively participate in sustainable practices, the special chief secretary added.
