Visakhapatnam: The pooja ceremony for the PV Sindhu Center for Badminton and Sports Excellence took place in Visakhapatnam on Thursday, marking a significant step towards establishing a premier sports facility. This center, built on 3 acres, has badminton as its core focus.

During an interview with Deccan Chronicle, PV Sindhu expressed her enthusiasm for the project, stating that the academy will feature multiple sports programs, with badminton as its primary focus. She anticipates that construction will be completed within a year. When questioned about the fee structure and capacity, Sindhu mentioned that these details would be addressed once the facility is operational, emphasizing the importance of first establishing the infrastructure before considering accommodation and food services for trainees.

She highlighted the center's potential impact on young female athletes, saying, "This is a great opportunity for girls who took inspiration from me." She emphasized her commitment to fostering talent in her hometown reflects her dedication to giving back to the community that has supported her career.

Expressing her gratitude for the support received, Sindhu stated, "I'm truly grateful to be building this center for the incredible people of Vizag. This center will be a space where athletes of all levels can find a home and a mentor." She envisions it as more than just a training facility, it is a call to action for aspiring athletes.

Sindhu also acknowledged the challenges facing Indian badminton and expressed her desire to lead by example. "I feel it's my responsibility to guide the next generation," she said. With backing from organizations like the Badminton Association of India (BAI) and Sports Authority of India (SAI), she feels uniquely positioned to make a lasting impact on Indian sports.

She further added that the project has been made possible through a partnership with Greenko, whose support has been vital in bringing Sindhu's vision to fruition. She expressed her appreciation for their involvement and confidence that this center will become a beacon of excellence. "With Greenko's partnership and the steadfast backing of Gopi Uncle, I am confident this center will become a beacon of excellence and opportunity." she noted. PV Sindhu currently prepares for her upcoming tournament in China on November 12.
