TIRUPATI: A man's plans of a second marriage at the Mounaswamy Mutt near Gogarbham Dam in Tirumala on Friday got thwarted when his first wife arrived at the venue with police and relatives.

The groom, identified as Rakesh from Telangana, fled the venue on spotting his first wife and police.

Sources said Rakesh's first wife Sandhya, from Pedda Pendyala in Warangal, came to know about her estranged husband's intentions and rushed to Tirumala on Friday morning. She filed a complaint at the local police station, prompting authorities to dispatch constables to the mutt, where the ceremony had been scheduled to take place.

While Rakesh fled the venue, police detained several of his family members for questioning.

Sandhya and Rakesh got married in 2016 and have a seven-year-old daughter. Their relationship soured just a year after their wedding. The matter is currently being heard in a local court at Hanamkonda.

Speaking to media, Sandhya said her husband, with the support of political leaders, had assaulted her and forced her out of their home. She has appealed for justice for herself and her daughter, as the case in this regard is being heard in court.

Police said they are investigating the matter and will take further action based on their findings.
