Vijayawada: The state government has issued an order setting up a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe complaints that adulterated ghee was used in laddu preparations at the Tirumala temple.

Guntur Range IG Sarvashrestha Tripathi has been named the SIT chief heading the probe. Visakhapatnam range DIG Gopinath Jetty, Kadapa SP Harshavardhan Raju and some other DSPs, CIs and SIs are included in the SIT.
Sarvashreshth Tripathi had served as SP for the combined Guntur and Krishna districts. During the general elections, he replaced Palaraju as the Guntur Range IG after the Election Commission transferred Palaraju. Despite the change in the government, Tripathi continued to hold the position of IG.
Chief minister Chandrababu Naidu had announced an SIT probe into the allegations of irregularities at TTD, which manages the affairs of the Sri Venkateswara Temple in Tirumala.
Naidu had stated last week that the ghee used for making laddu prasadam during the YSRC term allegedly contained animal fat.
