Visakhapatnam: Heavy rains lashed many parts of Rayalaseema during the last 24 hours, even as IMD, Amaravati, has forecast heavy rains and thundershowers for Andhra Pradesh till August 21.

A report on Saturday said the cyclonic circulation over South Interior Karnataka is now over north interior Karnataka adjoining Telangana. It is extending up to 5.8 km above mean sea level, tilting south-westwards with height.

Under its influence, heavy rain is likely at isolated places in north coastal Andhra Pradesh and Rayalaseema till August 21.

Thunderstorms accompanied with lightning are also likely at isolated places over the same region.

Strong surface winds with speed reaching 30–40 kmph are likely at isolated places over north and south coastal Andhra Pradesh, Yanam and Rayalaseema.

During the last 24 hours ending at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday, Puttur (Tirupati) received the highest rainfall of 13.8 cm, followed by Amarapuram (Sri Sathyasai) 9.8 cm, Gorantla (Sri Sathyasai) 9.5 cm, Madakasira (Sri Sathyasai) 8.8 cm and Atmakur (Anantapur) 8.8 cm.

In north coastal Andhra Pradesh, Paderu (ASR district) received 84.8 cm of rain.
