Implement Helmet Rule Strictly, HC Tells Traffic Police

Amaravati: The Andhra Pradesh High Court directed the authorities to increase inspections on key junctions and high-traffic roads. If motorists violate the rules, the Court asked the officials to take stringent steps against them.
The court was hearing to a petition filed by lawyer Yogesh regarding helmet rule.
If penalties are imposed, motorists would fear to violate the rules, the court said, adding that the presence of police on roads would instill fear among the violators.
The two-judge bench comprising High Court Chief Justice Dheeraj Singh Thakur and Justice Cheemalapati Ravi directed the Traffic IG to attend the next hearing.
In addition, the court asked the police to reduce depending on CCTV footage for imposing penalties. Ensure that the penalties are paid within 90 days of imposing them, the court said and asked the officials to seize the vehicles if the motorists failed to pay the fines.
Apart from seizing the vehicles under Section 167, the court also asked that the driving licenses should be scrapped under Section 206.
Further, the court also asked the traffic officials not to be lackadaisical in the implementation of the helmet rule as around 667 motorists lost their life due to the same reason. Not only the rider, even the pillion riding passengers should also wear helmets, the court said and asked the officials to implement the same without fail.
