Ram Mohan Naidu Kinjarapu, sworn in at Rashtrapati Bhavan on Sunday, has been cited as the “youngest-ever Union Cabinet Minister.”

He was born on Dec 18, 1987, in Nimmada, Srikakulam, as the son of Yerran Naidu, a former TDP leader and central minister. He had his schooling at Delhi Public School, RK Puram, New Delhi; got an undergraduate degree in electrical engineering from Purdue University, and an MBA from Long Island University.

He entered politics after the demise of his father in 2012. Elected to the Lok Sabha from Srikakulam in 2014 at age 26, he was the “second youngest MP” in the 16th Lok Sabha. He is the national general secretary of the Telugu Desam.

As an MP, he was a member of the standing committees on agriculture, railways and home affairs. He won the Sansad Ratna award in 2020 for his performance as an MP. He won the polls for the 18th Lok Sabha with a majority of 3.27 lakh votes.

Ram Mohan Naidu married Sravya in 2017 and they have a three-year-old daughter. His hobbies include photography and sports, particularly basketball and cricket.

A citation on Sunday said Ram Mohan Naidu followed in his father's footsteps by becoming the youngest cabinet minister, a record previously set by his father in 1996.
