Visakhapatnam:Godavari and Sabari rivers are overflowing and threatening several villages in the Chintur division of the ASR district. Sources said 18 villages in Kunavaram mandal have lost access to the main roads.

"Rains in the upper reaches of Maharashtra and Odisha are causing swelling of these two rivers. The villages located in between Godavari and Sabari are facing a threat of submergence and people were asked to move to upper lands,’’ said ASR district collector A.S. Dinesh Kumar. He said four ghat roads have been closed in Chintur division which might be opened on Tuesday.

Last month’s floods created havoc in Chintur blocking traffic between ASR district and Telangana, Chhattisgarh and Odisha for four days. The floods also have caused extensive crop damage. Approximately 85,000 acres of paddy fields have been affected, and horticulture and vegetable crops have suffered damage in 1,250 acres.
