Visakhapatnam: Sankhabrata Bagchi, assumed office as the new police commissioner of Visakhapatnam City Police on Monday. In a press conference held after taking charge, the commissioner outlined his priorities and vision for the city's police force.
He expressed his delight at taking office on a day that commemorates the birth anniversary of Dr Bidhan Chandra Roy, stating that it is a privilege for him as a doctor to serve in this capacity. He also mentioned his long-standing association with Visakhapatnam and his previous postings in the city.
"I am proud to work as the commissioner of Visakhapatnam City Police, and I am grateful to the Chief Minister for giving me the opportunity to serve here," Bagchi said. He identified drugs and narcotics as the foremost issue facing the city and declared it his top priority to eradicate this menace.
Bagchi took a firm stance against corruption, warning that any officer found engaging in corrupt practices would face immediate and strict action. To ensure a direct line of communication with the citizens of Visakhapatnam, the commissioner introduced a phone number, 7995095799, which he described as "the face of the press." He encouraged the public to use this number to report any problems, injustices, or complaints. "I am available 24/7 through this number. If I am in a meeting and unable to speak, send an SMS, WhatsApp, video, audio, or voice message, and I will call back. I am committed to solving people's problems," he said.
