Vijayawada: The Vijayawada Traffic Police booked 74 drivers for drunk driving during a special drive under I, II, and IV traffic police stations on Tuesday. Following directions from NTR district commissioner of police S.V. Rajasekhar Babu, checks were conducted at several locations in the city. The violators were produced before the sixth metropolitan magistrate and railway court. Metropolitan magistrate Judge Lenin Babu and railway court Judge R.V. Sharma fined 10 persons ₹15,000 each, while the remaining 64 were fined ₹10,000 each. Rajasekhar Babu stated that daily checks will continue and urged commuters to follow MV Act norms for safe travel.

Restrictions imposed in Vijayawada under section 163 of BNSS
The NTR district Police have imposed restrictions under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) and the former Section 144(2) of the CrPC in Vijayawada City, effective from August 13 to October 1. NTR district commissioner of police S.V. Rajasekhar Babu stated that the measures are precautionary to maintain law and order. Gatherings of more than four people and the possession of sticks, stones, and weapons are prohibited in specified areas under several police stations' jurisdiction. The CP warned that violators would face criminal charges.
Junior doctors call for strike demanding protection
The Andhra Pradesh Junior Doctors’ Association has called for a boycott of elective surgeries, outpatient services, and ward duties on Tuesday, demanding the immediate implementation of the Central Protection Act for doctors' safety. This follows the outrage and grief over the rape and murder of a postgraduate student at RG Kar Medical College in Kolkata on August 9. Students, interns, and resident doctors from AIIMS Mangalagiri also expressed their grief and demanded the resignation of those responsible for the failure to protect the on-duty female doctor.
