Vijayawada police crack down on illegal animal slaughter for Bakrid

VIJAYAWADA: In a move to ensure adherence to animal welfare laws, the NTR district commissioner of police (CP), P.H.D. Rama Krishna, has announced strict enforcement measures to prevent illegal animal slaughter during the upcoming Bakrid festival.
Speaking on Saturday, CP Rama Krishna emphasised that authorities will take stern action against anyone involved in illegal slaughtering, sale, or storage of animal meat. He cited relevant legislation including the Andhra Pradesh Cow Slaughter Prohibition and Animal Preservation Act, 1977, and various animal transport and slaughterhouse regulations.To effectively enforce these laws, the department has appointed Assistant CP B. Parthasarathi as the nodal officer. He will be responsible for overseeing efforts to prevent the illegal transport and slaughter of animals within the NTR district police jurisdiction.
Public cooperation is being sought to ensure a smooth and legal Bakrid celebration. CP Rama Krishna urged members of the RSS, Bajrang Dal, VHP, and other relevant committees to report any suspected illegal activity to the nodal officer at 9440627073.
The police department has formed special teams at the police station level to work alongside revenue, municipal, and animal husbandry departments. These teams will be actively monitoring the situation and taking necessary action against those found violating animal welfare laws.
