Visakhapatnam Steel Plant to Run into Profits: Purandeswari

KAKINADA: Bharatiya Janata Party AP president and Rajamahendravaram MP D. Purandeswari asserted that the Visakhapatnam Railway Zone will be a reality soon, as the state government is making efforts to provide a suitable site to the Railways for the purpose.

Speaking to media in Rajamahendravaram on Thursday, she announced that central government has given its nod to release ₹900 crore for construction of a diaphragm wall of the Polavaram project. Further, ₹15,000 crore is being given to Andhra Pradesh for building its capital at Amaravati.

With regard to the Visakhapatnam Steel Plant (VSP), Purandeswari said union minister for steel and major industries H.D. Kumara Swamy has promised to bring the steel plant into profits. Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu is also making efforts in this direction.

She said a detailed project report has been sent to the central government to develop Rajamahendravaram Railway Station on the east side at a cost of ₹280 crore. The entire work will be completed before the Godavari Pushkaralu in 2027.

The AP BJP chief said new flight services will be introduced from Rajamahendravaram to New Delhi, Jaipur and Ayodhya. She indicated that the new terminal of the airport will be completed soon.

She said as per the request of farmers, export duty on onions has been reduced to 20 per cent from 40 per cent and import duty on crude palm oil has been increased to 32 per cent from 12 per cent. She pointed out that a special fund has been created for development of horticulture crops.

BJP district president Bommula Dattu and senior party leader Relangi Sridevi were among those present.
