YSRC Suffers Major Jolt in Rayalaseema
Anantapur: YSRC suffered a major jolt in Rayalaseema, supposed to be its stronghold. Telugu Desam made a clean sweep of all the assembly and Lok Sabha seats in Anantapur and Kurnool districts.
TD also went on to win four of the 10 seats in Kadapa, the home district of outgoing Chief Minister Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy. Jagan, however, retained his Pulivendula seat with a thumping majority of 61,000 votes.
YSRC suffered defeats in Chittoor and Tirupati districts too. In Tirupati, YSRC faced a shock defeat, losing all the seven assembly seats. In Chittoor, only Peddireddy Ramachandra Reddy of YSRC won. The remaining six seats have been won by the Telugu Desam Party.
Kurnool district gave a reverse result of 2019 polls. TD had a cakewalk in 12 assembly constituencies as also in two Lok Sabha seats. Finance minister Buggana Rajendranath Reddy suffered a shocking defeat. Mantralayam YSRC candidate Balanagi Reddy managed to retain his seat.
NDA alliance swept all the assembly and Lok Sabha seats in Anantapur district. BJP candidate Satyakumar scored a historic victory in Dharmavaram against his nearest rival K. Venkatrami Reddy of YSRC. M.S. Raju of TD scored a victory in Madakasira with postal ballots against YSRC candidate Iralakkappa.
TD also won Anantapur Urban, Kalyandurg and Guntakal, from where TD fielded former YSRC minister Jayaram.
Deputy Chief Minister Amzath Basha suffered a serious defeat at the hands of his nearest rival Madhavi Reddy of TD in Kadapa assembly segment.
Veteran leader Varadarajulu Reddy had a cakewalk against his nearest rival Rachamallu Prasad Reddy of YSRC in Proddatur assembly constituency. BJP senior leader Adinarayana Reddy won with a good majority from Jammalamadugu against sitting MLA Sudhir Reddy of YSRC.
Chief Minister Jagan Mohan Reddy’s maternal uncle M. Ravindranath Reddy faced defeat from TD’s Putha Chaityana Reddy. Ravindranath Reddy had been hoping for a hat-trick victory, but he lost.
