Belagavi: The upcoming winter session of the Karnataka legislature, scheduled from December 9 to December 20 in Belagavi, will include extensive discussions on five bills. A 10-day Question Hour has been planned, along with debates under Calling Attention Notices, Zero Hour, and Adjournment Motions.

Addressing a press conference at Suvarna Soudha, Legislative Assembly Speaker UT Khader has sought everyone's cooperation to ensure that the session is conducted in an exemplary manner.

Khader stated that the Assembly Secretariat has already received 3,004 questions, 205 Calling Attention Notices, 96 notices under Rule 351, and three private member bills. Two bills to be tabled will replace ordinances.

"The session will formally begin at 11 am on December 9. Before that, at 10.30 am, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah will unveil a grand oil painting commemorating the Anubhava Mantapa (a 12th-century assembly of philosophers and saints, considered the world's first parliament)," Khader said.

Newly elected MLAs from the recent by-elections will be sworn in during the session. A Business Advisory Committee (BAC) meeting will be held in the afternoon to finalize the session's schedule.

A new Speaker’s chair has been specially designed for the Suvarna Soudha, modeled after the one in the Bengaluru Vidhana Soudha.

To manage the session's operations, 2,500 officials and staff have been appointed, along with an estimated 6,000 police personnel for security, totaling 8,500 personnel under the supervision of the district administration. Ten committees have been formed under the leadership of the Deputy Commissioner to oversee arrangements, including accommodation and transportation.

Khader also mentioned a photo exhibition commemorating the centenary of the 1924 Congress session chaired by Mahatma Gandhi, which was held in Belagavi. Rare photographs of Gandhi have been curated and displayed at various locations within the Suvarna Soudha for students and teachers visiting the session.

The winter session in Belagavi underlines the state’s focus on decentralized governance and regional significance.
