Chennai: General Sundararajan Padhmanabhan, who served as the 20th Chief of the Indian Army from the year 2000 to 2002, passed away at the age of 84 in Chennai.

After his retirement, Padhmanabhan had settled down in Chennai and made the city his home. A winner of the AVSM medal, he was an alumni of the National Defence Academy in Khadakwasla, Pune, and the Rashtriya Indian Military College in Dehradun.
