Hyderabad: Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy on Wednesday will launch a banking, financial services and insurance (BFSI) skilling initiative of the Telangana Council for Higher Education (TGCHE). The training for 10,000 students will be held in collaboration with the BFSI Consortium, a specialty skilling organisation. The initiative has attracted Rs 2.5 crore CSR funding.

The programme will be offered as a skill enhancement course (SEC) for non-engineering students, who number about 5,000, and a minor for engineering students. The courses will be delivered in a hybrid mode and the students will be provided with a certification and internships upon completion. “It will not cost the students or the government as it got funding from Equippp Social Impact Technologies,” said the council.

BFSI global capacity centres (GCCs), including major players like HSBC, JP Morgan and the London Stock Exchange, have created over five lakh jobs in India. However, the GCCs are facing a shortage of skilled candidates and high attrition rates. "The new initiative seeks to address these concerns by equipping students with the necessary skills before entering the workforce, ensuring a steady pipeline of job-ready talent," the council explained.

The council said that if the students were successfully placed in jobs, the programe could get more CSR funding. “Equippp’s technology division is developing a tracking portal to monitor the programme’s progress. Regular assessments, student reviews and interviews will be conducted. Senior government officials will oversee this monitoring process,” the council said.
