Hyderabad: BJP legislature party leader A. Maheshwar Reddy welcomed the establishment of Young India Skill University as it could help meet the needs of the state's growing job market. He said there was more need for skilling varsities in the state than traditional universities.

Speaking in the Assembly, Maheshwar Reddy said, “Importance should be given to the production sector. The previous government neglected the youth and did not think of skilling them. This step taken by the Congress government will benefit the youth. The government should clarify if the proposed university offers food processing courses. It is important to offer these courses as we are a society with 46 per cent of people still depending on agriculture. There are 35 lakh unemployed youth in the state.”

The BJP leader sought implementation of the Ambedkar Abhaya Hastham scheme and provide Rs 15 lakh to youths as promised in the Congress manifesto. The Backward Classes communities were also promised Rs 10 lakh. “We welcome the Bill though we differ with the Congress ideologically. The idea of extending the skill universities to the districts should be pursued,” he said.
