Hyderabad: The BJP has once again extended the membership drive till November 15, saying it had crossed the 30-lakh mark and aiming for 40 lakh members. The party is engaging its senior leaders and frontal organisations to reach out to the areas where it is weak.

Talking to Deccan Chronicle, BJP membership drive incharge N. Ramchander Rao said the party would conduct a special drive between November 3 and 5 with a booth-level focus to increase the membership. He said those who enrolled at least 100 members would be made active members, who would be eligible to take part in organizational elections.

An active member would be elected booth president. The booth president and 11 other members will act as a committee to take care of the party activities. The party had set a target of having at least 50 active members in each of the 612 mandals in the state.

He also informed that the leaders of Yuva Morcha, Mahila Morcha and other frontal organisations would take part in another special drive to be carried out from November 7 to 9.

“The mandal level office bearers will take part in the election of district president, who in turn choose the state president. The party wishes to go with consensus in electing the state and district presidents and if more members vie for it, the election will be conducted,” Ramchander Rao added.

It is to be noted that the BJP could enroll only 11.80 lakh members in its previous membership drive conducted in the state four years ago.
