Hyderabad: The Geological Survey of India (GSI) highlighted advancements in geospatial technologies for geological surveys at a workshop and plenary session during its GeoSmart India 2024 Expo held here on Wednesday. Inaugurating the event, GSI Director-General Asit Saha highlighted the critical role of geospatial technologies in Indian mineral exploration.

Several presentations at the workshop highlighted the use of geospatical technologies in online core business integrated system (OCBIS), the portal of GSI which supports a wide array of functions, including data visualisation, resource assessment, and dissemination of geoscientific information to stakeholders.

The presentation on National Geoscience Data Repository (NGDR) demonstrated application of high-resolution geospatial tools to integrate geochemical, geological, and remote sensing data.

The immense potential of AI-driven methods for carrying out predictive modelling to improve mineral exploration success rates was highlighted during the conference. This predictive modelling takes place by highlighting hidden or unconventional mineralisation patterns with the help of AI driven tools.
