Khammam: Minister for revenue and housing, Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy, announced on Monday that the state government will release funds for the construction of Indiramma houses through a green channel to ensure timely completion.
During the inauguration of a CC drain canal in Danavaigudem, part of the Khammam municipal corporation, funded with ₹25 lakh from the State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF), Srinivas Reddy reiterated the government’s ambitious plan to build 20 lakh Indiramma houses over the next four years. He emphasised that beneficiary selection will be conducted transparently.
Addressing the crowd, he criticised the BRS for trying to gain votes by promising double-bedroom houses during its decade-long rule. He highlighted that the former Congress government, under Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhar Reddy, had successfully distributed 19.56 lakh Indiramma houses in Telangana between 2004 and 2009 when it was part of united Andhra Pradesh. “It is always the Congress governments that have demonstrated commitment to providing pucca houses to poor families,” he remarked.
Srinivas Reddy assured that beneficiaries of the Indiramma houses would be chosen through grama sabhas in the villages, irrespective of political affiliations. The final list of eligible families is expected to be completed by the end of November. Funds will be disbursed via the green channel to expedite construction, and additional measures will be taken to complete pending double-bedroom houses, prioritising the poorest families.
Khammam revenue divisional officer Narsimha Rao and officials from the Khammam Municipal Corporation were also present at the event.
