Man held for smuggling ganja from Odisha to Maharashtra from Secunderabad
Hyderabad: The Government Railway Police (GRP) arrested a person for allegedly smuggling ganja to Maharashtra from Odisha by travelling in trains.
The arrested has been identified as Sanjit Kumar Bhuyan, 24, a labourer and native of Buripadar in Odisha. As many as 60 kgs of ganja worth Rs.15 lakh were seized from his possession. The personnel of GRP and Railway Protection Force (RPF) were conducting general checking on platform two and three at Vikarabad railway station when two persons with half a dozen luggage bags escaped. But the police managed to nab one person identified as Sanjit Kumar Bhuyan and checked him only to find 30 packets of dry ganja in six bags, all worth Rs.15 lakh.
After being grilled Sanjit Kumar Bhuyan said he and his associate Prasant Bhuyan, 22, a labourer and native of Odisha, were smuggling ganja from their village and selling it at Daund railway station in Maharashtra at high rate. As per their plan, they first came to Visakhapatnam railway station on June 9 and boarded LTT express by taking a general ticket.
When the train was crossing Lingampally after reaching Hyderabad on Monday night, they decided to go Mumbai by road from Vikarabad and accordingly alighted the train at Vikarabad Railway Station. On seeing the police, Prasant escaped while Sanjit Kumar Bhuyan was caught by the police after seizing 60 kgs of dry ganja along with a mobile phone from him.
