Hyderabad: A woman and her baby died at a hospital in Suraram, allegedly due to medical overdose of injections and negligence by doctors on Friday. Suraram inspector Chinta Shankaraiah said a case will be registered. The investigation will proceed based on the post-mortem report, he said.
The victim, M. Vineela, said to be in labour, was initially admitted at a hospital in Quthbullapur at about 6.30 pm on Thursday. She was given five injections till 4.30 am on Friday, when doctors informed the family that the baby had died and that amniotic fluid had caused infection throughout her body. They advised the family to immediately shift her to the hospital in Suraram. Vineela died in the Suraram hospital on Friday.
The family alleged that Vineela had died due to medical negligence.
“When my sister was admitted to the Suraram hospital, we didn't know her condition. The doctors created a lot of drama, claiming that she needed immediate surgery and demanding lakhs of rupees. We were doubtful about the treatment they provided. The lady doctor at the Quthbullapur referred her to the Suraram hospital, where her husband is a surgeon. This shows there might be a connection between the two hospitals.
The victim’s cousin, M. Satish, said, "They killed the baby and my sister by their negligence. This should not happen to any other patients. We demand justice."
