Hyderabad: Chief Secretary A. Santhi Kumari on Tuesday asked district collectors to complete the process to acquire land for the Hyderabad Regional Ring Road (RRR) project by the second week of September.

During a review meeting with district collectors at the Secretariat on Tuesday, the Chief Secretary highlighted the significance of the RRR project, and the need to accelerate the land acquisition process.

Shanti Kumari also stressed the importance of ensuring that farmers affected by the project received fair compensation for their land. She suggested the formation of district-level committees, chaired by the respective collectors, to oversee the compensation process. These committees will ensure that compensation is provided based on the market value of the lands, aiming to provide just compensation to the displaced farmers.

The CS also urged the collectors to take a proactive approach in resolving court cases related to the land acquisition, ensuring that legal hurdles are cleared promptly to avoid further delays in the project's execution.

Ever since the Congress government assumed office in December 2023, Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy has laid special focus on the RRR project. He visited Delhi twice and submitted representations to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and union highways minister Nitin Gadkari seeking early approvals and funds for the RRR project.

The state government views the RRR project as vital infrastructure development for the region, and it is keen to launch the construction works in October.

The meeting saw the participation of several key officials, including roads and buildings special chief secretary Vikas Raj, government adviser Srinivas Raju, revenue principal secretary Navin Mittal, forest additional secretary Prashanthi, R&B special secretary Dasari Harichandana, and joint secretary S. Harish and collectors and officials from Rangareddy, Medak, Sangareddy, Yadadri, and Siddipet districts.
