Hyderabad: Around 200 applicants at the Road Transport Office (RTO) in Khairatabad were left disappointed on Wednesday after a network outage disrupted scheduled appointments. Many applicants, who had been waiting for hours, had to leave without their work being completed.

The disruption was caused by a break in the internet cable, which led to a complete system shutdown. According to the applicants, the notice about the issue was only put up around 1 pm, despite many of them having waited since morning. Frustrated applicants, many of whom had taken leave or permission from their workplaces to attend the appointment, expressed their disappointment. Some criticised the lack of preparedness, stating that government agencies should have alternative plans in case of such disruptions.

C. Ramesh, joint transport commissioner and secretary, explained, “An internet cable was cut due to local issues like the Vinayaka Nimajjanam procession and an ACT Fibre cable breakage at the source. Efforts were made to rectify the problem in the morning, but the Internet service provider restored the line only at 4.16 pm. The issue has now been resolved, and services are functioning normally. All those who were unable to complete their work today can return tomorrow, as we have rescheduled the appointments for Thursday. We request all citizens to avail of the services tomorrow.”
